Strengthening Climate Change Education in Zambia

The Office for Climate Education (OCE) is participating in a training workshop on integrating climate change education into Zambia’s school curriculum. Organized from February 17 to 22, 2025, in Ndola, this event is led by the Zambian Ministry of Education with support from UNESCO as part of the Greening Education Partnership (GEP) and the FACE NDC project.

In response to the challenges of climate change, Zambia has reformed its national curriculum to adopt a Competency-Based Education (CBE) approach. This training aims to equip curriculum specialists and teacher educators with the necessary skills to effectively integrate climate topics into all subjects and grade levels.

  • Through a systemic and action-oriented approach, participants will: Develop competencies to design and implement climate change education within school programs,
  • Apply innovative teaching strategies that enhance student and teacher engagement in climate action.

This workshop aims to strengthen the capacities of at least 40 education specialists, who will play a key role in mainstreaming climate change education within Zambia’s education system. Through this initiative, education becomes a powerful tool to raise awareness, build responsibility, and inspire future generations to take action on environmental challenges.
